Holy Cross Church Altar Society
Bay City, Texas

February 2005

Attention All Ladies of the Parish:

The Holy Cross Altar Society seriously considered disbanding at the end of 2004 due to a lack of "new blood" in the organization. All of the current active members have held an office more than once and we would really like to see some of our younger ladies take over. We were convinced to hang-in for another year and the 2004 officers accepted another years term.

We welcome any new ideas and would also like to pass on some of our traditions, like kolache baking and quilting.

The Altar Society performs many services for our church and all ladies of the parish are members. We welcome all ladies to attend our meeting the second Thursday of every other month at Martin Hall at 7:30 p.m. We will be serving refreshments and playing games after the meetings. Our annual dues are only $3.00 and can be dropped into the weekly Church collection basket, or they can be mailed to Margaret Ottis, 2601 Del Monte, Bay City, TX 77414 or attend our next meeting in March.

Our members are involved in purchasing altar linens, hosts and candles; cleaning the sanctuary; purchasing and arranging the altar flowers for Sunday Mass, Christmas, Easter and weddings; cleaning vestments; and furnishing funeral dinners for our parish family.

In 2002 we reprinted our original Cookbook and added new recipes. The cookbook is called "The Fruit of the Spirit". Copies are still available and make a great gift. Contact Marcella Schraub at 245-7417 to purchase a cookbook.

In addition to the upkeep of the Altar and several Church projects, such as helping to cover some of the expense of remodeling Martin Hall, we have made monetary contributions to help support "Life Teen" and Holy Cross School.

During the "Fall Festival", the Altar Society prepares and serves a delicious Turkey and Dressing Dinner to approximately 1,800 people, and is in charge of the Country Store.

During the year we also gather at Martin Hall on the second Monday of each month to sew, quilt, craft, and network. We sell these homemade items in the Country Store at the Fall Festival.

We also sponsor a Kolache Sale at least once a year and the proceeds this past year were donated to Holy Cross School.

The 2004 -2005 officers of Holy Cross Altar Society are as follows:

President - Betty Orsak Vice President - Lori Ashby

Secretary - Margo Chilek Treasurer - Margaret Ottis

Please join us at our meetings as we really would hate to see this very active organization disband.
